Mock Dyson Airwrap Tutorial
If you’re like me you want to get that just left the salon look from home, but haven’t been ready to shell out $500 on the Dyson Airwrap.
So! I put together a step-by-step tutorial to getting the Dyson Airwrap look without the Dyson. If you’re looking for a video tutorial please visit my Instagram @shanorourke and see my hair highlights tab! I’ve also linked every product I’ve mentioned below.
Step 1: Shampoo and condition your hair in the shower. I’ve linked two brands of shampoo and conditioner that I love below. I’ve rotated back and forth between them over the past few years.
Step 2: Towel dry your hair with this magic hair towel. I got this as a Christmas gift and haven’t stopped using it since! It’s super absorbent and you can tell it prevents damage to your hair compared to a regular towel. Then, let your hair air dry for a few hours. I usually wait 2-4 hours because I have such thick hair and it takes forever to blow dry, but your hair might dry faster than mine. The key is to make sure your hair is almost dry but still slightly wet. This will save you a lot of time and frustration when blow-drying.
Step 3: Blow dry your hair. My goal here is to really smooth out my hair so I have a clean surface to curl on. I use a Wet Brush because it has lots of holes in it for the air to flow through. Make sure your hair is completely dry!! This is crucial - it will prolong the life of your styling significantly. That’s why I let my hair air dry for so long - so that when I go to blow dry it really only takes me about 10 minutes. After my hair is dry I usually sleep on it. This will smooth and flatten my hair out even more.
Step 4: The next morning I wake up and curl my hair. I use a 1 ¼ inch curling iron. I’ve tried all the barrel sizes and really feel like this is the perfect one for loose, blow-out-looking waves. The curler I use is nothing fancy but definitely gets the job done. I’ve had one of the $100+ curlers and honestly don’t think it made much of a difference.
Tips for getting the perfect curl: I always curl away from my face in the front. Then on the sides and in the back, I alternate directions. This will make sure the pieces don’t stick together and give you one massive curl. I start at the top of my head, run the curler through the piece of hair a few times to get it hot and then curl from the top down, continuing to roll down the piece of hair. Your curl will probably come out a little ringlet-y but this is okay! Just leave it for now.
Step 5: Spray with a light hairspray and let the curls set for about 10 minutes. This will make your curls last even longer. Once set, I brush them out very lightly and spray again with hairspray. Now you’re ready to go in the world with your look-alike Dyson blow out!
